The Town of Acton Select Board tabled a decision Sept. 4 on purchasing skid-steer equipment and agreed to schedule demonstrations so members can inspect machines before voting.
The Town Administrator presented six bids: Jordan Equipment Co.; United Ag & Turf (two bids); MB Tractor ($55,319); Milton Tractor ($64,095); and Chadwick Baross ($70,000). Board members reviewed the numbers and David Winchell Jr. proposed tabling the matter until the board can see the equipment and review options for skid steers, pushers and forks.
During public comment, resident Joe Ruma asked, “Are the skid steers going to be demoed?” The Select Board said they will arrange demonstrations and noted the Transfer Station superintendent is following the procurement process and supports the board’s review.
The board did not take a binding vote on purchase at the meeting; members directed staff to arrange demos and to bring the item back on the agenda for a future meeting after inspections.
