Acton Select Board awards $10,000 brush and chipping contract to Hawkes Tree Service

Officials reviewed two bids: Hawkes Tree Service at $10,000 and JA Simpson at $15,000. Town materials show Hawkes supplied liability insurance and workers’ compensation and described itself as a company with more than 20 years in business and roughly 25 employees. The company told the board it can complete the work in about three weeks and that its low bid covers grinding and removal of brush and chips from the Transfer Station; contaminants would remain on site.
Ed Walsh moved to award the contract to Hawkes Tree Service; Daniel Norwood seconded. The motion carried with all members voting in favor.
Town staff distributed a link with bid details to the Select Board for review; the board did not attach additional contract conditions in the meeting discussion. The board’s action authorizes the town to proceed with the vendor selected and instructs staff to complete the procurement paperwork in line with the accepted bid.
The board handled the award as part of its old-business review; next steps include completing written contract documents and scheduling the work with Hawkes.
