Hillsborough County adds $51,000 to Swim Safe initiative to expand lessons for children

Hillsborough County commissioners on May 6 approved an additional $51,000 in this year's budget to expand the county's Swim Safe initiative, county communications reported.
Katie, with Hillsborough County Communications and Digital Media, said the program serves Head Start students, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay and participants in Parks and Recreation summer programs, and that it has helped roughly 16,000 children learn to swim to date.
The recap did not include details about how the new funding will be allocated across sites or the expected increase in participant capacity. County staff will provide program and scheduling updates through Parks and Recreation channels and county announcements.
