Thayne ratifies new fire-department officers; WYDOT access denied for proposed site

At the June 16 meeting Chief Toby Merritt briefed the council on a reorganization of the Thayne Fire Department and listed a new slate of officers. Merritt said he will remain chief; Paul Petersen and Tedd Jenkins will serve as co-assistant chiefs; Cole Julson will be training officer; Robby Knowlton safety officer; Jay Hokanson EMR; Marc Clark purchasing officer; and Dawn Austin will remain secretary. Councilman Woolley moved to ratify the new officer roster and Councilwoman Passey seconded; the motion carried.
Mayor Devin Simpson updated the council on a WYDOT access application for a proposed fire-department site. Simpson said WYDOT denied the original site and supplied a proposed access that town staff and the fire department judged infeasible because of elevation. Chief Merritt said the department is working with an architect and intends to have building plans completed to align with anticipated ARPA funding. Merritt also said the department is prepared for July 4th festivities and asked for care around water near the SVI Media trailer.
The minutes do not record public comment or further council direction on the WYDOT denial; the department’s next steps are architectural design finalization and follow-up with the state over access options.
