Topham Library seeks $45,000 operating and $8,000 capital to support programs and repairs

Adam Kearney Schlantz, treasurer, said the library welcomed roughly 130–150 new patrons in the past year, increased circulation to about 10,000 items, and expanded programming from two programs to 14. Director Diane Everett said the library has grown volunteer support (about 34 volunteers) and is paying stipends for outside speakers as it expands programs. The board requested a $45,000 operating budget for FY27 to cover inflationary increases, utility and subscription costs, and program expenses.
On capital, library representatives said they expect to spend nearly all current capital funds this year on necessary interior/exterior handrail work and refinishing a circulation-desk floor; they requested $8,000 for FY27 capital to continue planned maintenance and to begin planning for heat-pump replacement projected for the early 2030s.
Committee members questioned specific line items (cataloging/circulation subscription costs) and were assured the library would clarify an earlier arithmetic error; the committee moved and recommended both the $45,000 operating and $8,000 capital requests (unanimous votes).
