Chebeague Island School Committee approves 2026–27 enrollment targets, joins Cohort 3 for early childhood special education

The Chebeague Island School Committee on Dec. 16 approved enrollment targets and a plan for the 2026–27 school year and voted to join Cohort 3 of the Early Childhood Special Education Transition program.
Erin Layng moved to approve the enrollment targets and plan "as written," and Caitlin Henningsen seconded; the motion passed 3-0-0. Later in the meeting Layng moved and Henningsen seconded a motion for the district to join Cohort 3 of the Early Childhood Special Education Transition program for 2026–27; that motion also passed 3-0-0. The recorded votes reflect the three members present: Vice Chair Elizabeth Doughty, Caitlin Henningsen and Erin Layng. Jeff Putnam and Carly Knight were recorded as absent.
Superintendent Aaron Townsend reported that he had received correspondence from committee member Jeff Putnam expressing support for the proposed enrollment targets and the district plan for 2026–27. Townsend also reported on the Chebeague Island School winter concert held Dec. 11.
The agenda modifications approved at the start of the meeting tabled the Lead Teacher report and deferred discussion of FY27 budget priorities to a future meeting; the minutes note that a warrant for FY26 was presented for approval but do not record a motion or vote on that warrant. The committee set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at Chebeague Island School and adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
