Family seeks variance for addition at corner lot on 1 Chester Court

Sandra Limmer, speaking for her family, told the Brunswick planning board the proposed 10-by-20-foot, single-story addition at 1 Chester Court will modernize an older house and support aging-in-place needs by adding a downstairs bathroom.
“My husband and I are both retired, and we've been doing most of the paperwork to hope to get a variance to put an addition on 1 Chester Court,” Limmer said, explaining that the house dates from about 1930 and that the new addition would be no closer to Chester Court than the existing structure.
Board members asked whether the porch would be removed, what the foundation would be and how the corner-lot setbacks apply. The applicant said the existing porch will be removed and the addition will be built on a full basement/foundation. Staff and board members said the application appears administratively complete and moved to place the item on the agenda for a public hearing on Monday, July 20 at 6:15 p.m.
Next steps: staff will perform site visits as needed and the board will hear public testimony at the scheduled hearing before any variance determination.
