A Brunswick resident asked the town planning board on Monday to approve an area variance so she can install a portable storage shed near the bottom of her sloped property at 4 Easy Street.
The applicant said the home’s steep yard leaves only a 14-foot flat area at the bottom where a compact tractor and seasonal equipment could be kept. “I’m looking just to have a portable shed put on the property so that I can store some of the spring and summer items that we have,” the resident said, explaining that alternative locations would sit on the slope and be difficult to level.
Board members asked about setbacks, screening and neighbor notice. The applicant said she requested a 1-foot setback to ensure the shed would sit level and that her neighbor, Eric Rumpel, has no objection; she also offered to stake the site and paint the shed to match nearby arborvitae. The board confirmed the applicant had indicated she would mark the site for members to inspect before the hearing.
The planning board concluded the application is administratively complete and scheduled a public hearing for Monday, July 20 at 6 p.m. No formal vote on the variance itself was taken at the meeting.
Next steps: the applicant will stake the proposed footprint for site visits, and the board will consider the variance at the July 20 public hearing.
