Goshen board approves change order for Lincoln–Story reconstruction after testing finds low‑strength soils

Staff said after reviewing alternatives with Tensar personnel they determined undercutting and placement of two layers of multiaxial geogrid (NX750) with aggregate between the layers “would provide the most economical means of adequately stabilizing the subgrade.” Staff presented estimated plan sheets and unit pricing, including a listed block excavating price of $7.76 per square yard for the NX750 geogrid.
The board moved to approve Change Order No. 8 (job number 2019 00046). The motion as read in the meeting record said the change order amount is $37,55 in the transcript; staff stated the change, combined with previous changes, increases the contract value by 3.67%. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Staff noted the change order does not include common excavation costs that would have been necessary regardless of the undercutting method and that no additional consultant fees were requested to complete the work. The board did not request additional information before approving the change order.
