Covington sets trick-or-treat, costume contest and Hometown Christmas dates; mural funding pursued

Covington — Council members and staff used the Oct. 6 meeting to confirm several public events and community initiatives for the fall and holiday season.
Village Administrator Jordan Hodges said trick-or-treat in Covington will be Oct. 30 from 6:00–8:00 PM and that the splashpad remains open until staff posts closure notice. Police Chief Tim Cline reminded the public that the costume contest will be held Oct. 28 and that the parade begins at 7:00 PM on Wright Street.
Councilmember Julie Blumenstock said she has been in contact with property owner John Hackett about using the north side of his business for a mural and has reached out to the Duke Foundation regarding funding. Separately, the Covington Christmas Committee is planning the Covington Hometown Christmas for Nov. 28; the parade will begin at 5:30 PM, tree lighting at 5:45 PM, and festivities will end at 7:30 PM.
Leaf collection has begun and will continue as weather and crew time permit; Hodges said no additional yard waste will be collected under the current plan. The Village offices will be closed Oct. 13 for the holiday and trash pickup will be delayed one day.
