The Scott County School District 2 board on an affirmative voice vote approved a new hourly pay scale for noncertified support staff that guarantees every current hourly employee at least a $0.50-per-hour raise on implementation.
Superintendent said the district moved employees into lettered groups (A through O) to standardize pay and avoid new hires “passing up” existing staff; initial adjustments will round employees up to the nearest step within their group. "Every person current employees that we have, they're gonna have a guaranteed 50¢ raise," the superintendent said, describing additional step increases that will vary by group.
A board member pressed whether years of experience still determine placement, using nurses as an example. "So everyone's gonna get at least a 50¢ raise?" the board member asked. The superintendent replied that current rates will be bumped by $0.50 and then rounded to the nearest step; the district expects most initial raises to range between $0.67 and about $0.80 per hour depending on prior placement.
Officials said the new scale removes direct ties between years of service and step placement so long-tenured employees are not automatically topped out by the new structure; new hires will not start past step 4 for their group. The superintendent said future raises will be driven by the master teacher contract schedule rather than an automatic July 1 increase for all hourly staff; implementation timing may be July 1 or Aug. 1 depending on position work calendars.
The board moved and seconded approval; the chair called the question and noted the motion carried. The superintendent said the district will publish explanatory materials online and provide visual documentation so affected staff can see their placement and potential growth under the new scale.
The measure takes effect for the coming school year once district payroll processes are completed.
