Administrator: Stillwater Dam work advancing; utility removals delay proposed bike path

Covington — Village Administrator Jordan Hodges updated council Oct. 6 on several infrastructure projects, including the Stillwater Dam work and planning for a proposed bike path along the railroad corridor.
Hodges said he shared photos of the Stillwater Dam project and that the village is working with contractor Flatland and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources; new stairs will be added on the dam’s east side and some asphalt and miscellaneous work remain. He said gates at the wastewater treatment plant are installed and will be activated once asphalt and a pole barn are in place.
On the proposed bike path, Hodges said planning is still in preliminary phases. The desired route would use the railroad corridor and stop near Rakestraw Road. Progress on removing the railroad and opening N. Main Street depends on Kinetic removing utility lines that run under the railroad track; staff are also working on easements and rights-of-way. Hodges noted proposals from Access Engineering and Kleinfelder differ and that the Development Review Department (DRD) meets on the fourth Monday at 2:00 PM; residents are welcome to attend.
Visitor Robert Kener of Ingle Road asked specifically for an update on the bike path; Hodges provided the status summary above. Hodges also reported that the wastewater treatment plant and the water department were struck by lightning during the weekend of Sept. 21–22 and that village crews responded so residents were not affected.
