Covington Village Council on Oct. 20 waived the three-reading rule and adopted Ordinance 11-25, which repeals and replaces the village salary ordinance to restructure pay for positions the village intends to fill. Village Administrator Jordan Hodges explained the changes were designed to align pay and allow the village to advertise open positions.
The council first voted to waive the three-reading requirement. The motion to waive was made by Amy Welborn and seconded by Dawn Duff; the roll call recorded Jesse Reynolds, Martin Leistner, Dawn Duff, Amy Welborn and Julie Blumenstock voting yes, and Derrick Canan abstaining. Council then voted to approve Ordinance 11-25 on the same tally after a motion to approve by Dawn Duff, seconded by Jesse Reynolds.
The ordinance will take effect as provided in its text; no additional amendments were recorded during the meeting. Council members did not raise further questions during the Oct. 20 deliberation.
The adoption follows the administrator’s description that the update was intended to restructure pay for positions needed to be filled so the village can proceed with advertising for hire.
