"We believe that this is a very viable project that ... will bring in additional notoriety to Talladega and bring in additional foot traffic," the presenter said.
Katie Campbell, introduced as the Main Street executive director, said the group is not requesting city funds and will seek private sponsors to underwrite installations. "We're not asking for any money," Campbell said, adding that staff and community feedback would shape siting and design.
Councilors raised questions about safety, placement and whether existing venues such as the speedway might be involved. Presenters cited examples from other cities and stressed the need for a committee to set design parameters and safety rules so the displays do not create hazards or appear like a junkyard.
The council expressed general support for exploring the idea and said it would take the presentation under consideration and look for potential council liaisons to serve on the Main Street board. No formal action or funding commitment was made; council asked staff to follow up as part of normal planning procedures.
The Main Street presenters invited public feedback via their Facebook page and said they would return with more concrete plans if the council endorsed moving forward.
