Covington seeks state grant to demolish and redevelop Sellman’s Warehouse, pledges $40,000 match

Covington — Village Administrator Jordan Hodges told the Village Council on Nov. 17 that the village will seek state funds to demolish and redevelop the old Sellman’s Warehouse and will include a $40,000 local match in the application.
Hodges said the building contains asbestos and that the village no longer has an interested buyer for the property, which is why he asked the council to authorize filing an Ohio Department of Development grant application (Resolution R44-25). Council did not vote on the resolution; a second reading is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2025.
Hodges said the village will cover the $40,000 match if the grant application moves forward. The minutes record that Hodges provided Exhibit A for the project and that he will present additional information at the Dec. 1 meeting. No detailed budget or timeline for demolition and reconstruction was provided in the Nov. 17 minutes.
What happens next: The council will consider R44-25 at its Dec. 1 meeting; if approved, the administrator will submit the ODOD application and return with any required contractual or match documentation.
