Waynesville manager reports trace PFAS in new Well 10; OPWC projects and downtown DORA updates

Gary Copeland, the village manager and director of public safety, updated the Village of Waynesville Council Dec. 16 on several infrastructure and public-safety items.
Copeland said Ohio EPA’s review of Well 10 detected small amounts of PFAS. He told council the village plans to blend Well 10 with water from other wells to reduce concentrations and that the village must submit a letter to Ohio EPA explaining why the new well is required. Council did not record specific PFAS concentrations in the minutes.
Copeland also reported that SmithCorp attended a preconstruction meeting for the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Franklin Phase II project; work is expected to begin around the first of the year with a target completion date of May 10. He said the village received notice of an OPWC award for Fourth Street, with work anticipated to begin in the fall, and that signs marking the downtown DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area) boundaries are in place; participating businesses may begin serving beverages within the district once they receive approved cups.
Other routine updates included replacing overly bright bulbs in Victoria Place with dimmer bulbs and a suggestion to consider reserving funds to purchase the Bannon property upstream of the village wellfield should it become available. The minutes record these items as updates; no formal decisions were taken Dec. 16.
