Fairfield board OKs music curriculum, Title II grant and multiple donations

At its May 14 meeting, the Fairfield Community Schools Board unanimously approved several curriculum and funding items, including adoption of the Essential Elements music class for elementary music, acceptance of the 2025–2027 Title II grant, and approval of the 2025–2027 elementary handbook and the 2026–2027 Student Acceptable Use Agreement.
The board also accepted a series of donations: $1,055 from the Fairfield FFA Alumni Chapter to the Fairfield Jr.-Sr. High FFA program; $3,000 from Indiana Sports Corp earmarked to further literacy at Millersburg Elementary after the school’s Division 3 State Championship "Read to the Final Four" win; two anonymous donations totaling $4,000 and $1,000 and $3,000 to the Fairfield Class of 2030 for 8th grade celebration expenses; $6,800 from the Fairfield Alumni Association Blue/Gold to the athletic department (broken down in the minutes by purpose); and $600 from the Blackbaud Giving Fund on behalf of the Zimmer Biomet Foundation for show choir materials.
The board also approved an Essential Elements elementary music class adoption at Monica Kegerreis’s request and approved the district’s Title II grant for 2025–2027. Field trips and extracurricular staffing items tied to performances and competitions were also approved in the action items.
Monica Kegerreis said a senior who participated in the school musical told her, "We are so lucky to have her at Fairfield," speaking about new choir director Julia Zusi, whom the superintendent introduced earlier in the meeting. Motions on the curriculum and donations were moved and seconded by board members and passed unanimously.
