Enon council appoints Officer Amanda Penewit and hears staff updates on insurance, repairs and park idea

The Village of Enon council authorized the final appointment of Amanda Penewit as an officer of the Enon Police Department at its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting. Councilmember Rick Hanna moved the personnel motion and Councilmember Leist seconded; the motion passed unanimously with all six members voting yes.
The personnel action authorized three items: final appointment of Amanda Penewit following completion of her probationary period; an increase in her hourly pay by $1.00; and a change in her vacation accrual to four weeks per year in reflection of prior service with other agencies. The minutes record the personnel recommendation in the police report but include no personnel file details beyond the employment terms noted in the motion.
Police Chief Jeff Wise distributed the December statistical report and told the council that a volunteer auxiliary officer is likely to join the department to help manage the evidence room. Chief Wise also said he will pursue grant funding to place automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all village vehicles.
Administrator Arthur Franklin provided routine administrative updates: the village has a new health insurance plan for full-time employees through Aetna; a water leak at 7260 New Horizon was repaired; employee Jeff Oliver has begun classes to obtain a CDL Class A; holiday decorations were removed and new decorations are on order; and new corporation limit signs were installed at the Fairfield Pike and Hunter Road village entrances. Mayor Howard reported receipt of a letter of interest from Doug White to serve on a village board or commission and mentioned a resident idea to expand Settlers' Park; no formal action was taken on those items.
Financial statements for December remain unclosed and will be available for approval at the next council meeting, according to Fiscal Officer Robert Storm. The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
