At the June 15 meeting of the Pearland Planning and Zoning Commission, staff summarized recent actions taken by the Pearland City Council on June 8 and highlighted a council discussion about housing and state law thresholds.
According to staff, the Council approved the second reading of a zoning case into the "L And R Clear Creek plan development" and later adopted a resolution approving a development agreement with Ash and Oak Homes. The council also approved a conditional use permit for a resale consignment shop with two additional conditions (cross access between adjoining properties and a wet detention pond with a fountain) and approved a first-reading ordinance amending Chapter 11 related to food handlers following a state law update.
Staff said the council held a first discussion on future growth and development workshops focused on housing in Pearland and noted two state laws enacted in September 2025 that apply to counties with populations over 300,000 or cities over 150,000. "We are not currently at the 150,000 threshold," staff said, but added that the city is monitoring housing policy given the state rules and is considering workshops to address future growth.
Staff said the next City Council meeting is scheduled for June 22. The commission received the update as an informational item; no commission action was recorded on these council items at the June 15 meeting.
