Valley View council approves payroll claims, personnel measures and bridge lighting funding

Council also approved Ordinance 2026‑1‑2 appointing Anthony Makaryk as a full‑time firefighter and swore him in immediately after the vote.
The meeting included approval of three labor‑related items (ordinances 2025‑12‑9; 2025‑12‑10; 2025‑12‑11) that were on second reading and a separate motion to implement agreed salary changes for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #67, IAFF Local 2634 and AFSCME effective the first full pay period of 2026; that motion passed 5‑0. Council also passed Ordinance 2026‑1‑4 authorizing Valley View Patrolman John Krucek to retain his retirement duty weapon, Ordinance 2026‑1‑5 establishing a pay schedule for non‑bargaining employees through Dec. 31, 2028, and Ordinance 2026‑1‑6 amending the personnel manual holiday section. All recorded votes on those ordinances were 5‑0.
On infrastructure, Council adopted Resolution 2026‑1‑3 requesting Cuyahoga County proceed with rehabilitation of Rockside Road bridge no. 03.32 and resolving that the Village would pay 100% of the costs for engineering, construction and construction engineering for lighting enhancements. The resolution passed on a unanimous recorded vote.
Finance Chair Jakubczak moved to authorize the Clerk‑Treasurer to approve the annual list of purchase orders for 2026 and to proceed with a server upgrade from vendor TTX for an amount not to exceed $41,129.28; both items carried 5‑0.
Procedural appointments and reappointments were handled during the meeting: Councilman Chuck Wilson was elected Council President Pro‑temp for 2026; Councilman Spieth was named Council Representative to the Planning Board; the Mayor reappointed Marty Johnston, Joe White, Mike Bertovich and Jerry Piasecki to the Planning Board and reappointed Don Paulson and Nita Justice to the Recreation Board. Each appointment was approved by Council.
The meeting closed with routine committee reports and the Council adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
