Selectboard seeks Harbor Board members, explores transfer-station options and will contact prospective town attorney

The Cushing Selectboard used part of its Aug. 12 session to record several administrative follow-ups: recruiting members for the Harbor Board, exploring transfer-station options outside town, and seeking a new town attorney.
Craig Currie said the town needs additional Harbor Board members; the board currently has three active members and an announcement will be sent seeking volunteers. The Harbor Board would have oversight responsibility for the Harbor Master.
On solid-waste management, Currie reported he contacted the individual who manages the Thomaston/South Thomaston/Owl’s Head transfer station to ask about ballpark pricing based on Cushing’s tonnage; the contact has not yet replied. Currie said the process of changing transfer arrangements would be complicated and take time.
The board listed an action for legal counsel: Currie will reach out to Ben to ask whether Ben is willing to serve as Town Attorney and to compare his fees with the prior attorney’s. The minutes show the action and record a carried motion.
Other administrative items noted at the meeting included an update that the town boat will be used by the Harbor Master for a mooring-mapping project and initial planning for Cushing Day, for which the town will manage the insurance and begin organizing a volunteer committee. IT and Harbor Master items were tabled until Harbor Master Austin Donaghy is present.
No hiring decisions, formal contracts, or transfer-station agreements were finalized at the meeting; all items were recorded as pending further follow-up.
