Sylvania schedules March 2 meeting to continue debate over proposed federal immigration enforcement ordinance

Council set a follow-up Committee of the Whole meeting for Monday, March 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers to continue discussion of Proposed Ordinance No. 37-2026.
Chief Miller of the City Police Division gave the Committee an overview of the division’s existing policies and how they compare with the proposed ordinance; Westphal said the department’s policies are written and periodically updated by Lexipol. City Law Director Ms. Brinning provided a legal opinion on the proposed legislation and discussed how it could affect the city, Westphal reported. The March 2 Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled to be held at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 6635 Maplewood Avenue, Sylvania, where staff will continue to present information and hear public comment on the proposal.
