Valley View authorizes two-year senior grass-cutting bid; police retirement announced

The Village of Valley View council on Dec. 2 authorized engineering staff to prepare and advertise a two-year bid for the senior grass-cutting program and heard departmental reports, including a police retirement announcement.

Engineer Sciano brought the procurement question to council, asking whether the service should be awarded via a one-year or two-year contract. Council authorized a two-year advertisement: "Authorize Engineer Sciano to prepare plans and specifications and advertise for a two-year bid for the senior grass-cutting program," council recorded in a unanimous vote (moved by Wilson, seconded by Paulson).

Clerk/Treasurer Mary Snyder presented the village statement of cash for the period ending Nov. 30, 2025; specific account balances were not stated in the meeting transcript. Police Chief Niro submitted a written report and announced the retirement of Officer John Krucek. "Officer Krucek will be greatly missed," the chief said, noting Krucek served almost 20 years with the village and as an instructor in firearms and first aid; the chief said the fire chief allowed a fire-department instructor to provide continuing first-aid training while the police department seeks a replacement.

Recreation Director Todd Von Ville confirmed his reappointment, submitted a written report and reminded residents that the village tree-lighting ceremony is Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Building Commissioner Larry Ellis also submitted a written report and thanked council for his reappointment. The meeting adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
