Atkinson water committee readies Master Plan response, public-water expansion and tracks regional interconnection bill

The Atkinson Water Resources Committee met Jan. 13 at Town Hall and agreed to coordinate its work with the town Planning Board and regional partners on planned water infrastructure projects.
Committee Chairman Jake McManus said the Planning Board asked AWRC to attend the board’s March 18 meeting to discuss Phase 2 of the public-water expansion. McManus said he will prepare a written summary for the Planning Board. Committee member Michelle Veasey said she will reach out to the Rockingham Planning Commission and the Merrimack River Watershed Council to gather regional input and technical assistance.
The committee identified Phase 2 of public-water expansion as critical to meeting Master Plan Goal 3, which seeks to protect the quality of Atkinson’s surface and ground water. Jake McManus said he will also track the Southern New Hampshire Regional Water Interconnection Project and related state legislation, including SB 541, because of potential effects on regional supply and interconnections.
Michael Richeson said the committee will add drought-assistance information for new wells to the AWRC webpage to provide resources for residents during low-supply periods. No formal votes were taken on the infrastructure items during the meeting; the committee set a follow-up timeline and a March 18 engagement with the Planning Board.
The committee’s next regular meeting is Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
