Plain City Council approves routine business: appointments, taser donation, impact-fee review and library recognition

Plain City Council handled a package of routine business items at its Feb. 9, 2026 meeting, including appointments to local boards, amendments to committee term lengths, authorization to donate unneeded tasers and holsters, review of the annual impact fee report, and a proclamation honoring Library Director Chris Long for 26 years of service.
Appointments and committee term amendments: Council appointed Sean Gardner to the Planning and Zoning Commission (term to Dec. 31, 2029) and Caylib Mason to the Board of Zoning Appeals (term to Dec. 31, 2030). Council also amended term expiration dates on the Personnel and Finance, CIP Committee for Logan Hogrefe (now Dec. 31, 2029), Beth Pothast (Dec. 31, 2028), Lauren Giaimo (Dec. 31, 2027), and Melissa Pollom (Dec. 31, 2026). Each motion was seconded and recorded as approved "All in favor."
Taser donation: Council authorized the Chief of Police to donate unneeded tasers and holsters to the Tolles Criminal Justice Program. Village Administrator Haley Lupton told council that "the tasers have no value and cannot be refurbished to an operational condition." The motion to authorize the donation was made by Council member Jamey Sintz, seconded by Council President Tyler Harriman, and recorded as adopted unanimously.
Impact fee report: Village Administrator Haley Lupton presented the annual impact fee report, required by the Plain City Codified Ordinances, and told council that fund balances "are progressing as expected." When Council member Toni Arnold asked whether there are planned uses for the park and roadway impact fee balances, Lupton said the Village is allowing the balances to increase and that the funds must be used for new improvements, but specific projects have not been identified yet.
Proclamation: Mayor Jody Carney presented a proclamation recognizing Mrs. Chris Long for 26 years of service as Plain City Library director and thanked her "for all she has done for the Village." Minutes record the council’s congratulations.
Approval of minutes and adjournment: The council approved the Feb. 4, 2026 special meeting minutes; the minutes record five yeas and one abstention by Mr. Sintz on that vote. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 P.M.
