At its April 10 meeting the Fairview Park Shade Tree Advisory Committee approved its February 2024 minutes and discussed several outreach and planting items, including the Haber Drive planting plan and a tree giveaway at the mayor’s upcoming State of the City event.
Doug MacMillan reported that 11 property owners on Haber Drive have agreed to have a tree installed. He said a meeting with Mayor Megan Otter, Kim Mann and committee members resolved outstanding issues: the committee will select the 15 trees required for the Haber Drive project and the city will hire a contractor to do the planting, consolidating Haber Drive with the Northwood/Eastwood project. Minutes state that funds donated by Kim Mann will be used to purchase the trees and to pay the contractor as requested by Mayor Megan Otter. The minutes also note that the city requires use of an approved contractor that meets bidding regulations. The minutes record that planting was scheduled for Fall 2024; the minutes do not state whether planting subsequently occurred.
For outreach, the committee agreed to hold a tree giveaway at the mayor’s State of the City event on May 1 to boost the Friends of STAC mailing list; Dale V. was assigned to confirm availability of a tree with "Matt." Melissa S. reported she had obtained 25 Serviceberry, 25 Shingle Oak and 5 Sycamore seedlings for distribution or other uses. The committee set an additional meeting for April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Dale’s house to address project specifics.
Actions at a glance: Melissa S. moved and Amy H. seconded approval of the February 2024 minutes (motion recorded as approved). The committee agreed that it would select 15 trees for Haber Drive and that the city would contract planting; the minutes record a donation from Kim Mann to fund trees and contractor costs.
