Waite Hill council adopts 2012 appropriations, approves equipment purchases and accepts Lake County solid waste plan

Waite Hill's Village Council on Feb. 13 adopted its 2012 appropriations ordinance and approved several routine resolutions and equipment purchases.

Council read and adopted Ordinance No. 2012-3, which provides appropriations for expenditures and other expenses for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2012. The council suspended the three-reading rule and approved the ordinance on a unanimous roll call (yeas: Cox, Dery, Gale, Scheucher, Steudel, Taplin).

The council also adopted Resolution No. 2012-4 (authorizing payment of certain sums) and Resolution No. 2012-5, which approves the Lake County Solid Waste Management Plan Update (December 2011) and declares an emergency; both resolutions passed unanimously after being read and moved by council members.

During budget and service discussions, council confirmed the purchase of a 4-ton tandem-axle trailer-mounted asphalt hauler (an asphalt "hotbox") from Concord Road Equipment for $21,000.42. The Service Department reported receipt of a new loader and said it will order 200 tons of salt now to obtain a lower price and hedge against possible diesel-driven price increases later in the year.

Planning & Zoning reported favorably on Ordinance No. 2011-14 (a rewrite of the zoning code) with minor changes; the mayor said the council will advertise a public hearing and, absent objection, scheduled the hearing for the April 9 council meeting to allow at least 30 days' notice. Mayor Ranallo also noted administratively that the village will not contest a former chief's unemployment claim and that medical coverage will continue for six months pending payment.
