Surry Select Board appoints members, approves contracts and sells old fire engine

At its May 20 meeting the Select Board promoted Jared Benner to a full Planning Board seat, appointed Mike Marino to the Finance Committee, approved lawn-care contracts and accepted a $4,100 high bid for an old fire truck; several routine warrants were also approved unanimously.
The Surry Select Board on May 20 handled several personnel and operational items, approving appointments, contracts, a sale and multiple warrants in a meeting that ran one hour and adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
Pat Kane moved and Chris Stark seconded a series of motions that the board approved unanimously: promotion of Jared Benner from associate to a full three-year seat on the Planning Board; appointment of Mike Marino as a regular member of the Finance Committee; and approval of lawn maintenance contracts (Shane Cox for Osgood Field and Memorial Park and Winslow for cemetery mowing). The board thanked outgoing Planning Board member Tom Minogue for his service and noted the associate vacancy will be posted on the town website.
The board also approved a bill of sale for the town's old fire engine, accepting the high bid of $4,100 from Dawsen Astbury. Ray McDonald and Son's contract for mowing is scheduled to end June 30, 2026 and will be placed on a future agenda.
Bryce Emerson, described at the meeting as having prior code enforcement and LPI experience on the peninsula, agreed to serve temporarily as the Licensed Plumbing Inspector until a permanent appointment is made.
In other business, George Borowsky provided an update that the town submitted a Housing Opportunity Grant application for up to $10,000 to support updates to ordinances prompted by recent legislation; application status was not specified.
The board approved payroll and multiple accounts-payable and electronic warrants: Payroll Warrant #79 for $14,240.45; Accounts Payable Warrant #80 for $12,524.33; Accounts Payable Warrant #82 for $7,617.50; and Electronic Payment Warrant #81 for $138,790.03, which includes School Warrant #28 with payroll of $73,621.67 and accounts payable of $61,717.98. Pat Kane moved to approve the warrants, Chris Stark seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Friends of Memorial Park announced a July 4 sing-along event from 10:00–11:00 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
