Surry reports progress on Newbury Neck projects; FEMA funding request resubmitted

Town officials told the Select Board April 1 that the Newbury Neck infrastructure projects are progressing toward construction, but remain contingent on permitting and funding.
Select Board member Chris Stark said engineering studies for the Congressionally Directed Spending project on Newbury Neck have been completed and the project is nearing permit approval from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. "Proper permitting and engineering considerations" are important before moving forward, Stark said.
On disaster recovery, town staff reported they have resubmitted a FEMA application seeking $164,000 to repair storm damage near the pines on Newbury Neck Road. The town plans the work for the fall to meet FEMA's December 1 deadline if funding is approved.
At the cistern site, blasting has been completed and crews will install a drain in the coming weeks. Officials said they will install the cistern once town roads are unposted and the contractor has requested delivery in early June.
Board members did not take a separate formal vote on contracting at this meeting; they discussed permitting, funding timing and next steps for construction and site work.
