Mayor: Cielo owners canceled request for extended liquor hours; village to review B1/B2 liquor-license structure

Mayor Beniamino Mazzulla reported that the owners of Cielo canceled their scheduled appearance at the Oct. 14 Board meeting. The owners had asked to appear to request an extension of hours on their liquor license, saying their business has been struggling.
Mazzulla said he advised the owners to adhere to the original business proposal that the board approved on July 22, 2025, and that the owners are expected to attend the Oct. 28 meeting to pursue their request. He told trustees he is working with the village’s legal team to revise the liquor-license structure that governs B1 and B2 zoning districts.
There was no formal vote on license changes at the Oct. 14 meeting. Trustees did vote to table one matter of probable litigation in closed session; Trustee Loretta J. Teets moved to table the matter and Trustee Marco A. Gutierrez seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with five ayes and one absence.
The board has not yet introduced a specific ordinance or amendment to change licensing hours or district rules. Any substantive policy change would require a future agenda item, public notice and board action.
