Stone Park departments report staffing moves, sewer testing and holiday events

Trustee Loretta J. Teets said the Village’s Halloween event was well attended and all candy bags were distributed; she said planning for the holiday season has begun. Pancakes with Santa is scheduled for Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (one seating), with the Christmas Parade assembling at Village Hall at 4 p.m. that same day. Trustee Simplisio Roman asked whether the parade could be held in the morning; staff explained the parade is traditionally scheduled to follow the Pancakes with Santa event so residents can view holiday lights.
Public Works Director Jessica Ramirez summarized operations: a water shutoff at the 1500 block of 43rd Avenue on Oct. 31 after a Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) water-main break; removal of seasonal flowers and Halloween decorations; assistance excavating the east side of the Casa Italia pavilion for a building extension; and routine leaf and debris clearing to prevent storm-drain clogging. Ramirez said sewer-condition testing by Robinson Engineering/REL for the MWRD was scheduled for Nov. 12 and that affected residents and businesses had been notified.
Director of Public Safety Chris Pavini said the police department began accepting lateral transfer applications on Nov. 11 to prepare for anticipated veteran departures and had received nine applications to date. He added the department will apply for Body Camera and COPS grants and that he completed required state training.
Building Commissioner Robert Gonzini reported that new construction on 40th Avenue has progressed to roof framing and that sewer and water work is complete for three sites. He said the owner of 1813 N. 40th Avenue will need a new contractor and a meeting was scheduled for Nov. 13 to review specifications; drawings for 3200 Lemoyne Avenue would be submitted for review by the commissioner and Fire Marshal before permits are issued.
No public-comment speakers are recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 6:36 p.m. after a motion by Trustee Marco A. Gutierrez, seconded by Trustee Marco T. Paz; the minutes record unanimous aye votes from the trustees.
