CCRPC to continue outreach on VELCO DOE grant after mixed municipal feedback

Taylor Newton told the committee he had spoken with managers of the municipalities affected by the VELCO transmission line. Four of five managers were comfortable with the executive committee’s earlier position; Milton’s manager raised stronger concerns about local impacts. The committee gave staff executive committee support to keep discussing the grant with VELCO and the affected municipalities should the DOE application advance to permitting.
Why it matters: The DOE grant and any resulting upgrades to the VELCO line could have permitting, land-use, or municipal impact implications for towns along the route. Staff emphasized that RPC assistance with energy planning has been valuable to municipalities.
