CCRPC Executive Committee hears VELCO DOE grant, equity update and annual meeting plans

At its June 5 meeting the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) Executive Committee heard several staff updates.
Taylor Newton reported that VELCO submitted a U.S. Department of Energy grant in May that included a community benefits package tied to a proposed transmission project partly located in Chittenden County. If the grant is awarded, funds could support Green Mountain Transit commuter routes and municipal energy resilience programs for impacted towns.
Anne Nelson Stoner, Equity & Engagement Manager, said she is finalizing a Code of Conduct that was reviewed by Rachel Jolly of Burlington’s Community Justice Center and that the Equity Advisory Committee met in May to review ECOS Plan engagement findings. Stoner said ECOS public engagement is slowing and that takeaways will be presented to the full Board in July; she described ongoing work on an Equity Action Plan and a proposal to hire CCRPC staff to support municipal equity and engagement efforts.
Emma Vaughn reviewed the FY25 meeting calendar, noting conflicts with religious holidays and the committee’s decision to move the July Executive Committee meeting from July 3 to July 10. Charlie Baker provided a legislative update: the Open Meeting Law bill was signed, the River Corridor/Floodplain Bill went into effect without the Governor’s signature, and H.687 (Act 250 bill) was on the Governor’s desk with a decision expected soon.
Staff also reviewed the June 18 Board agenda and noted that the annual meeting will include recognitions and a retirement celebration for Pam Brangan; Vaughn reported 75 confirmed attendees and that registration had closed. No executive session was held.
