Union City council fails to advance police-hire motion; retroactively appoints Mark Zigler as code enforcement officer

Separately, the Personnel Committee recommended Mark Zigler for the Code Enforcement Officer position. Councilor Osborn moved and Councilor Joyce seconded a retroactive appointment for Zigler, who is available for initial training on July 12 and to begin regular duties on July 29. Councilor Uber opposed the motion, citing a concern that Zigler should reside in the borough; the motion nevertheless carried.
