Union City approves paving payments, allocates millings and clears local grant awards

At its June 25 meeting, the Union City Borough Council approved several finance and infrastructure items tied to the 2024 paving program and local grant awards.
The council reviewed an invoice from Cross Paving for $104,740.81 and approved paying $92,130.00 from the Liquid Fuels fund and $12,610.81 from the General Fund. Council also passed a resolution applying $15,625 of County Aid to a payment to Suit‑Kote for the seal coat project. Council authorized Union Township to grind millings from the borough’s paving project, confirmed a load to Evergreen Cemetery, and approved providing two to three loads of millings to the American Legion ballfield to address driveway issues.
On community grants and finance the council recorded that the Union City Volunteer Fire Department repaid its full $59,250 ambulance loan and that the borough received an ECGRA Renaissance Grant in the amount of $100,000. Six Renaissance Grant applications were received; council recommended approving four applications totaling $17,675 for 2023/2024, leaving a balance of $750.49, and agreed to carry the remaining two applications totaling $9,452.65 into the 2024/2025 grant period. The council approved the recommendation unanimously.
For treasury management, council approved opening a new PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 (majority of the Capital Equipment funds) from a Northwest account to capture a higher interest rate. Council also approved posting removed playground equipment on Municibid for sale.
