The Eunice Municipal Schools Board approved a memorandum of understanding to offer dual-credit agricultural and horticulture classes through Eastern New Mexico University for the 2026'27 school year.
Administrators said the district is "in certain areas ahead of the New Mexico Junior College" and that the junior college does not currently offer the needed courses, so two classes taught locally by district staff (including coursework with Mr. Gaskins) will be run for dual credit through Eastern.
Mr. Richard later thanked the board for allowing students to receive dual credit through Eastern while the junior college builds capacity such as a greenhouse. He noted that juniors in the shared blocks will still receive dual-credit through NMJC where available, and that some career-technical prerequisites (for example, anatomy ahead of nursing) require careful sequencing.
The motion to approve the MOA passed by roll-call vote. Administrators said NMJC is building a greenhouse that may allow more local dual-credit offerings in the future; in the meantime this MOA enables students to gain college credit for agricultural coursework they otherwise could not access locally.
