Kuspay School District adopts $79.26 million budget and imposes 4.5276 permanent tax rate

The Kuspay School District board adopted its 2026–27 budget, approving a $79,259,140 spending plan and a permanent tax rate of $4.5276 per $1,000 of assessed value.

At the June 8 meeting the chair read Resolution 2026-03, which lists fund-by-fund appropriations: general fund instruction $24,891,890 and support services $19,059,688 (general fund total $45,175,224); special revenue fund totals of roughly $16,131,662; a capital projects total of $1,447,500; and debt service of $398,400. Total unappropriated and reserved amounts are $12,596,354, yielding the adopted budget total of $79,259,140.

Board members discussed the budget in the context of steady state school fund revenue and declining enrollment. District staff told the board the district expects enrollment to decrease by about 60 students per year, which reduces some grant revenues tied to average daily membership. Staff also outlined several staffing adjustments made to balance the budget, including reductions tied to lower ADM at specific sites, elimination of certain specialist positions that were supported by temporary grant funding, and one additional online-teacher FTE to meet caseload requirements.

No members of the public spoke during the budget hearing. The board moved and seconded the resolution; Board Member Kevin said he would abstain because he had not attended the budget committee meeting. The chair voted in favor and the motion passed, adopting the budget and imposing the tax rate described in the resolution.

Next steps: the adopted budget will be on file at the district administrative office and staff will execute the spending plan for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026.
