The committee reviewed draft fact sheets intended to help newly appointed pharmacists‑in‑charge (PIC) and to explain what nonresident pharmacies should expect during a California inspection.
Members and public commenters found the PIC draft too brief and suggested a more comprehensive, 'living' resource that could include practical tools such as a PIC binder checklist, links to policy statements and self‑assessment forms, records‑management guidance and inspection checklists. Commenters noted many pharmacists are hesitant to assume PIC duties and recommended framing the resource as supportive leadership guidance with clear, practical steps.
On nonresident pharmacy inspections, staff presented a draft FAQ describing board expectations under AB1503. Rob Gettis of CVS said the materials and the April policy statement were helpful and recommended the FAQ remain a living document that inspectors and licensees can refine as California inspections proceed. Members discussed whether posters and visible signage required by California law have the same utility for closed‑door nonresident operations and asked staff to consider the best way to set expectations for nonresident business models while inspectors gain field experience.
Next steps: members encouraged staff to expand the PIC fact sheet into a practical toolkit, include links to training and self‑assessment resources, and keep the nonresident inspection FAQ up to date as inspectors collect feedback.
