Town Manager said the board had widely posted the proposed schedule change and received little public comment, and emphasized that the switch does not reduce operating hours but gives the employee consecutive days off. "We're not reducing the days. We're not reducing the time. We're just switching one of the days," the manager said.
Ken Richardson, a longtime resident who spoke during public comment, criticized the change and said the town has removed weekend access to services in the past. "This town is supposed to be about public service," Richardson said, adding he was "just disgusted." Board members responded that they had solicited feedback and that most people contacted about the change supported it.
A motion to approve the change was made and seconded; the board adopted it by voice vote and asked staff to put updated stickers and signs on the gate and to hand out notices at the transfer station in the coming days. The board instructed staff to monitor feedback and indicated the schedule could be revisited if problems arise.
Practical details: hours will remain the town's existing winter and summer schedule; staff will order signage and distribute handouts to inform residents of the March 1 effective date.
