Denmark recreation director to step down; board asks for job summary and participation data before hiring plan

The Denmark Select Board was notified on Jan. 27 that Recreation Director Hillary has given notice and plans to continue through the current recreation season, likely until August.
Board members asked Hillary and staff to prepare a written job description, season participation figures (numbers of children by season), a breakdown of program costs (umpire fees, registration income vs. donations), and recommendations about whether the role should remain a stipend‑based position (currently around $300–$380 per month) or be converted into a compensated position with different responsibilities.
Members also discussed possible collaboration with nearby Brownfield programs to share services or staffing if participation levels do not justify a standalone director. The board said it will await the materials from Hillary and noted it does not plan to create a full‑time position for the coming year absent further data.
Staff will invite Hillary to a future meeting to provide the requested materials near the March meeting cycle to inform FY2027 budget decisions.
