The Town of Denmark Select Board reviewed preliminary FY2027 budget documents during its Jan. 27 meeting and discussed how best to account for capital needs, including funds for the public-works building under consideration.
The Town Manager said the current draft represents a 7.6% increase over last year, largely driven by additions to a capital equipment fund and a proposed capital building fund. Several board members recommended initially placing requested resources into a dedicated public-works or public-buildings fund so that the budget more clearly reflects the town’s priorities and the money is visible through the budget process.
Board members said they expect to refine numbers with the budget committee and asked staff to show options that would move building-related requests into the building fund without obscuring operating changes. Members noted that removing requested building money from general operating accounts would make year‑to‑year comparisons clearer and help voters and the budget committee evaluate tradeoffs.
No final budget vote was held. Staff will present revised budget tables with the board’s recommended fund shifts at forthcoming budget‑committee meetings.
