The Augusta City Council on June 15 scheduled two budget work sessions for June 22 and June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to review recently received county tax data and prepare budget materials.
Staff (Josh, S7) also briefed council on a solicitation for naming rights to the Red Bud trail/bridge project; only one proposal was submitted. Councilmembers debated whether to address the proposal in an upcoming work session, form a small negotiating committee or treat it as a standalone agenda item. Several members suggested discussing the proposal during the June 29 work session if time permits; others recommended a dedicated work session to review terms such as proposed donation size and the length of naming rights.
Councilmembers raised public-safety concerns about electric scooters and e-motorcycles operating at night without headlights or taillights and riders running stop signs downtown. Staff said a downtown-specific ordinance update is underway and the police chief will work with staff on enforcement and code updates. Council adjourned by voice vote.
