The Fremont City Council on June 9 approved the special-event application, street closures and a fee waiver for John C. Fremont Days scheduled July 9–12, and agreed to an additional fee waiver after discussion of park readiness and construction timelines.
City clerk Michael Chatterson introduced the request and Parks Director Nate Hansen and event representative Connie Dosel answered council questions about whether the newly developed park would be ready for the festival. Hansen said the parks crew was working to have the area prepared but cautioned that some sod or trim work might not be finished; if necessary, staff would protect soft areas with fencing or temporary mats to avoid damage.
Council members repeatedly expressed support for the long-running festival and asked staff and organizers to prioritize readiness. Councilman Vaughn and others praised parks staff for past work on athletic fields and expressed confidence the festival could proceed, while acknowledging construction risks. The council moved and approved the resolution and the additional fee waiver unanimously (8–0).
Staff said they would continue coordination with the event board and adjust logistics as needed to protect newly installed turf while accommodating festival activities.
