Sunbury council approves routine items; selects auctioneer, approves road closure and reserves police academy spots

Sunbury City Council on June 8 handled a set of routine municipal actions alongside the public discussion over a proposed ICE agreement.
Council approved minutes and departmental reports from earlier meetings and accepted routine finance and departmental items. The council selected David S. Brown Auctioneer Services to conduct an upcoming property auction for the Turkey Hill parcel, citing his buyer-fee proposal. Members also approved a temporary road closure on July 22 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. so the Joe Seder bike tour can stop in Cameron Park.
The council authorized Police Chief Slack to reserve two cadet seats at the Harrisburg Community College police academy (class beginning in July) and discussed financing and possible state tuition reimbursement. Council approved proceeding with legal action to recover demolition costs for the rear structure at 724 Market Street, with the solicitor to advertise the filing and pursue a lien if unpaid.
Other approved actions included reallocating modest amounts in the budget to cover municipal clean-up costs, passing the first reading of a one-way street ordinance for a block near CVS, and approving abstracts, vouchers and payroll as presented. Several items (including the ICE/287(g)-style proposal) were tabled or sent back for further review.
