Committee OKs $221,000 for bike-path easements linking Lieutenant Ross Park to Peabody Road

The Peabody City Finance Committee on June 11 approved $221,000 to fund temporary and permanent easements for a section of the city’s bike path.
Kurt Bellavance, Director of Community Development, told the committee the appropriation covers the section that leads from Lieutenant Ross Park, the bridge over Route 1, under Route 95 and then connects back to the Peabody Road section.
Councilor Gamache asked whether the appropriation covered the extension from Endicott Street and whether it included the segment heading over Route 1; Bellavance confirmed it covers the named section that includes the bridge and the underpass.
Councilor Gamache moved to appropriate $221,000 from the sale of real estate (account 270-00000-33005) to account 270-33005-58116 for the bike-path easements. After no further discussion, a roll-call vote recorded Stegel (yes), Gomes (yes), Turco (yes), Manning Martin (yes) and Peach (yes); the motion carried 5–0.
The appropriation authorizes acquisition of rights needed to build the contiguous segment described by Bellavance; the committee did not change the funding source or scope during the meeting.
