PennDOT announces TAP awards to region including Carlisle, Harrisburg projects

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Transportation Alternatives Set awards that include several projects in the Tri‑County region.
Staff summarized awards affecting the region: Carlisle (Cumberland County) received $989,000 to complete phase two of a shared‑use path; Lower Island Township received $250,000 for school-area pedestrian improvements; and two city of Harrisburg awards were announced — roughly $463,000 to construct a protected bike lane between North 12th and North 15th streets and about $746,000 to relocate a segment of the greenbelt trail in South Harrisburg and construct a 10‑foot paved trail under the Sycamore Street Bridge to reconnect the trail corridor.
Staff noted that while the region had exhausted some regional TAP funds in prior rounds, projects can still access statewide funds. City officials in attendance thanked PennDOT for the awards and staff said links to award materials would be provided for more information.
Next steps: awardees will advance project development and coordinate on grant administration and design; staff encouraged municipalities to contact PennDOT project pages for detours and further project details.
