Peabody City Council on June 11 moved to receive a report on the city’s subsidized‑housing inventory under Chapter 40B and referred it to Industrial and Community Development for staff to provide updated numbers and project pipeline information.
Councelor Manny Martin said the inventory was reported at 10.56% and that his quick calculation suggested the city could lose 57 subsidized units through the rest of the year and into 2027, which might reduce the share to about 10.3%. He urged staff — naming Stacy Bernson — to present current data and any projects in the pipeline so councilors can confirm the city remains above the 10% threshold used in Chapter 40B calculations.
The council moved to refer the item for staff presentation and follow-up; the motion was made under suspension of the rules and referred to the appropriate committee for further review.
