Resident urges Greenburgh to assume sidewalk snow‑clearing near schools; board to schedule work session

During public comment, resident Nanda Kumar Pudukkord asked the town to take responsibility for clearing snow from sidewalks installed adjacent to private properties on Longview Road, saying residents were not consulted before sidewalk installation and now face the obligation to clear snow within 24 hours under current rules.

"The sidewalk is a property of the town and not a part of our property, so it's not clear why it would be our responsibility to keep that clean," Pudukkord said, urging the town to adopt a policy that would require the town to clear sidewalks within one mile of any elementary or high school. He said sidewalks facilitate safe routes to school and that tax dollars paid by residents should cover their maintenance.

Board members responded that the issue involves legal and logistical complications and suggested scheduling a work session to examine options; staff noted preliminary proposals and encouraged the resident to participate in the work‑session discussion. "We'll see what Holly has scheduled and then schedule something accordingly," a council member said; the supervisor agreed to follow up by email to set a date.

The board did not adopt an immediate policy change; it committed to place the topic on a near‑term work session agenda so members can review costs, legal authority and operational approaches.
