Greenburgh reviews Irvington fire‑protection agreements as residents press for timely billing

The Greenburgh Town Board discussed one‑year agreements with the Village of Irvington to provide fire protection for the East Irvington Fire Protection District and heard resident concerns about billing timelines.

Town staff said the 2024 payment figure for the district is $128,341. When the board considered the proposed 2025 agreement, staff read a higher sum — $212,063 — and a resident raised questions about why the board was approving a contract retroactively for a previous year or why billing arrived late. "We're in '26 now, not in '25," the resident said, asking for clarity on timing.

Town staff and the administrator explained that the timing of bills from villages and districts varies; some invoices arrive late and the town follows a common practice of processing when bills are received, while intending to move toward more timely, same‑year approvals. Supervisor Paul Feiner said he would press village administrators and fire chiefs to provide documentation earlier and noted the town's goal of avoiding multi‑year holdovers. "We have to just move away from passing things after the fact," Feiner said.
