A council member summarized a recent meeting with Gillis Township Trustees in which trustees and staff discussed replacing an old bridge on Wetstone (Lauren Road) with a new structure to improve emergency access and support future development.
The council member said attendees favored placing the new bridge at the old bridgeE28099s location because of its original siting and engineering, and proposed salvaging the old historic bridge for public display at the fairgrounds. The county engineer may be able to design and build the replacement in-house, which could reduce costs that previously deterred bridge projects.
Council and township representatives discussed grant opportunities to fund the replacement; the council member noted Derek offered to help with grant work and suggested both the township and village would collaborate on applications.
Next steps: The council member said no formal council action is required at present; the village and township plan to continue collaboration and pursue grant options and engineering assessments.
